Who We Are

A Community-Driven Mission to Build and Support Wells County’s Animal Shelters

The Wells County Friends of the Shelter was formed out of a vital community need to establish a dedicated animal shelter in Wells County. In the late 1990s, a passionate group of local animal advocates launched a countywide capital campaign to bring this vision to life. Led by key organizers Dave and Suzanne Feeback, the effort brought together support from city and county CEDIT funds, grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Wells County Foundation, the Schaeffer-Kehoe Foundation, the Journal Gazette Foundation, and other contributors, along with remaining funds from the former Wells County Humane Society. Private donations from community members also played a crucial role. The project totaled $675,000, culminating in the ribbon cutting of the current shelter building on December 20, 2004. Today, remaining funds are maintained through the Wells County Foundation to support ongoing building maintenance.
